To empower the Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) of CADT 254 MAMASANSISU Mamanwa Tribal Organization in their pursuit of a sustainable coconut enterprise, the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP) through the AD-Entrep component conducted the Knowledge Exchange on Successful Coconut Enterprise in Bansalan and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on June 9-12.

The four-day activity serves as a vital platform for learning and inspiration. It allowed the Mamanwa IPs to gain firsthand insights from established coconut-based enterprises and cooperatives in Davao del Sur—an area known for its robust coconut industry.

Participants engaged with key stakeholders and successful practitioners in the coconut value chain such as Bansalan Cooperative Society Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BCSMPC), Bansalan Coconut Farmers and Workers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BCMC), and Franklin Baker Inc. The activity features learning visits to processing facilities, farmer cooperatives, interactive sessions on value-adding techniques, and discussions on best practices in enterprise management, marketing, and sustainability.

DA-MIADP aims to equip IP communities with knowledge and linkages to help them develop inclusive and sustainable agriculture-based enterprises. With this exposure, the MAMASANSISU Mamanwa Tribal Organization strengthens its preparation to launch a community-based coconut business in Surigao del Norte.
