The Manobo tribe is culturally rich in traditional practices, medicinal uses, diversity, and traditional knowledge based on their community plant resources. They live an intricate life dependent on agriculture and forest plants (Jamera, Manting, Dapar, 2020).

They dwell in hinterlands and mountainous regions in the southern part of the Philippines such as in Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The said ancestral domain relies heavily on agriculture and fishing to drive its local economy.  Its main crops are coconut, abaca, rubber, and cacao, while other sources of tribal household income are from chicken and goat raising and tilapia farming.

Technical Service Provider Area Coordinator Jill Yvonne Ducena confirms: “Agriculture in Rosario, Agusan del Sur primarily consists of coconut, abaca, and rubber production, while fishing activities focus on various freshwater species such as mudfish (haluwan), catfish (hito), and tilapia.

Present at all phases of ADAIF formulation and at the agri-fishery investment planning workshops conducted by DA- Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project, Ducena explains that the Manobo community must have a wide and consistent understanding of each table in the ADAIF as they enumerate the existing crops and livestock in the area.

“The LGU must have a databank and the data must be accessible easily during data collection. Data gathering is a time-consuming process and requires a lot of effort but it is helpful to complete the document, suggests Ducena.

Despite the challenges in database management, the CAMMPACAMM Ancestral Manobo Tribal Association, Inc., the only Indigenous People’s Organization in CADT 078 prioritized the establishment of the Coconut Consolidation, Processing, and Marketing.  Works to be done after the approval of the proposal and funding from MIADP consist of setting up coconut nurseries, providing one-cycle capital for operation, and an FMR in Road 25 to Brgy. Sta. Cruz and Road 2D to Latay in Brgy. Marfil, improvement/concreting of NRJ Purok Ocite to Bahi Spur Sto. Niño to Loring FM, and concreting of Purol 6m Cabantao-Gawahon redline Maligaya FMR.

The said World-Bank funded projects through DA-MIADP will benefit more than 10,000 members of the Manobo Tribe in Agusan del Sur.

The Rosario AD in Region XIII, CARAGA formulated its ADSDPP in 2017 for 2017-2026. With a total land area of 22,518.33 ha covering Bayugan 3, Cabantao, Maligaya, Marfil, Sta. Cruz, and Wasi-an, it has a population 10,593.

MIADP is a six-year project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) that aims to sustainably increase agricultural productivity, resiliency, and access to markets and services of organized farmer and fisherfolk groups among the indigenous cultural communities/ indigenous peoples (ICCs/IPs) in selected Ancestral Domains (ADs) and for selected commodity value chains in Mindanao.  It has four components namely Component 1: Ancestral Domain Planning and Social Preparation, Component 2: Resilient Ancestral Domain Agri-Fisheries Infrastructure, Component 3: Ancestral Domain Agri-Fisheries Production and Enterprise Development, Component 4: Project Management and Support, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
