The Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP), funded by the World Bank, aims to foster sustainable growth in Mindanao’s agricultural sector, particularly for Indigenous Peoples (IPs). This training, led by the Environmental and Social Unit, focuses on equipping participants to prepare and conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), develop the Initial Environmental Examination Checklist (IEEC) report, and apply for Environmental Compliance Certificates for MIADP subprojects within ancestral domains.
Participants will gain essential knowledge on applying the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards (ESS), particularly ESS 1(Assessment and Management of Environmental and Social Risks and Impacts) and ESS 7 (Indigenous Peoples/Sub-Saharan African Historically Underserved Traditional Local Communities) ensuring that MIADP’s activities do not result in negative social and environmental consequences and support the well-being and development aspirations of local communities, particularly the IPs in Mindanao.
The training will cover the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (EIS), as mandated by the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (PD 1586), and relevant regulations.
Outputs of the training will include:
* Completed IEEC reports for subprojects.
* Enhanced capacity for conducting Environmental and Social Assessments.
* Improved understanding of Indigenous communities’ needs and rights.
* Development of risk mitigation strategies for environmental and social impacts.
